Dr.Kancherla Aruna Prasad Memorial Scholarship

 

Dr.Kancherla Aruna Prasad was from the batch of 1960 and was the past president of GMCANA from 1998 t0 2000. He came to USA in 1972 and completed his residency in Anesthesia in Chicago and practiced in West point, Georgia. He passed away on October 2, 2008. He was survived by his Wife Parvathi and their children Sree Ratna and Madhu. His friends and colleagues remember him as a great humanitarian, leader and a philosopher. To pay their respect his classmates, friends and leaders of GMCANA, under the leadership of Dr.Srihari Das Kanuru, this new endowment “Dr.Kancherla Aruna Prasad memorial Endowment scholarship “ has been created. Over $ 10,000 was collected and 50 % of the interest will be given annually to the student who is academically bright but economically disadvantaged student. The first two scholarships of Rs 10000 each was given by Mrs. Parvathi Kancherla on the eve of 9th GMCANA awards function.

 

Dr.Duggirala Bala Subramanyam Memorial Fund in Physiology


This Endowment has been established in 2008 to honor the memory of Dr.Duggirala Bala Subramanyam ,an alumnus of GMC,(class of "66) by his family and friends with a donation of $10,000.Dr.Duggirala completed residency in Internal Medicine and also in Rehabilitation Medicine and worked at Veterans Administration Hospital in Maryland. He had keen interest in Basic Sciences and in recognition of his interest, this award will be given annually to a student with highest score in Physiology examination conducted by University of Health  Sciences.

 

Dr.Gokaraju Hari Rao Endowment fund in Anatomy: 

This endowment is established by Drs.  Ravi and Asha Velisetty (class of 1974) in recognition of her father Dr.Gokaraju Harirao who is well remembered as Dr. GRK Hari Rao by our alumni. He was Professor of Anatomy in Guntur Medical College for several years.  He is retired and presently living in Guntur.  She is donating $10,000 (the minimum required for Endowment Fund)as contribution to the fund.  All alumni and interested persons wishing to add and contribute to the endowment fund are more than welcome and may send their contributions to our treasurer Uma Gavani. 

The funds will be managed by the Treasurer, GMCANA under the supervision of the Endowments Committee, President, President-elect and chairman of the Board of Trustees of GMCANA.  50 percent of the annual income will be awarded to the best GMC student in Anatomy that got the highest score in the Anatomy examination conducted by the University of Health Sciences. The award will be presented annually at the time of the GMCANA awards function.  The remaining interest income will be added to the principle to protect against inflation.

The endowment fund shall be a part of GMCANA account and will be presented to and approved by the general body on an annual or biennial basis. GMCANA will also requests Guntur Medical College to unveil the portrait of Dr. G.R.K. Hari Rao  in the Medical Library/ CME Center or other prominent place at the time of initiation of the Endowment Fund. We are planning to felicitate Dr.G. R.K. Harirao at the time of the 4th GMCANA awards function.  

 

 

Dr.Mandava Sreemannarayana Murthy memorial fund for General Surgery: 

This endowment was established by Dr. Leela Dhanekula in memory of her beloved husband Late Dr. Mandava Srimannarayana Murthy who was an alumnus of GMC ( 1974 batch).  He completed his post graduation in General Surgery at GMC/ GGH.  She has donated $ 10,000 as initial contribution to the fund.  

The funds will be managed by the Treasurer, GMCANA under the supervision of the Endowments Committee, President, President-elect and chairman of the Board of Trustees of GMCANA . 50% of the annual interest income will be given to the Department of General Surgery for purchase of the educational materials and/or equipment most useful to the Post Graduate education.  These will be presented annually at the time of the GMCANA awards function.  The remaining interest income will be added to the principle to protect against inflation.

The endowment fund shall be a part of GMCANA account and will be presented to and approved by the general body on an annual or biannual basis. GMCANA will also requests Guntur Medical College to unveil the portrait of Dr. M. Srimannarayana Murthy in the Medical Library or other prominent place at the time of initiation of the Endowment Fund. The photo was unveiled at the Awards function by Dr. Kodela Siva Prasada Rao Hon Minister for Health. The first grant of $ 500 was given to Dr.Fayaz Ahmed Prof of Surgery to be used for improvement in education in General Surgery. 

The first award was presented to K. Vidya, by Dr.GRK Hari Rao on February 3, 2004 for securing the highest number of marks in Anatomy in the annual examination conducted by NTR University of Health Science for the academic year 2002-2003 (marks: 164/200).

Sri Tummala Ramakrishna Sastrullu Memorial Fund:

This endowment was established by Dr. Satya Prasad Tummala an alumnus of GMC  (1976) in memory of his grand father Late Sri Tummala Ramakrishna Sastrullu.  He has donated $ 10,000 as initial contribution to the fund.  

The funds will be managed by the Treasurer, GMCANA under the supervision of the Endowments Committee, President, President-elect and chairman of the Board of Trustees of GMCANA. 50% of the annual interest income will be awarded to the economically disadvantaged but academically bright student.  The remaining interest income will be added to the principal to protect against inflation. The award will be presented annually at the time of the GMCANA awards function. The committee to identify the candidate will be formed by the  Coordinators of GMCANA with the help of the Principal and other staff. 

The first award was presented to Shaik Riyaz Babu on the eve of third GMCANA awards function on Dec 23rd 2003. 

The second award was given to K. Kavitha (Final MBBS) on February 8, 2004

 Dr.Tummala Ramabrahmam,M.D. memorial GMCANA Research Endowment Fund

This Endowment Fund is established by Dr.Venkata Subba Rao Uppuluri, M.D. in memory of his friend Dr.Tummala Ramabrahmam,M.D., who was an alumnus of GMC.  Additional funds may be added  by Dr. Uppuluri or others from time to time.

The funds will be managed by the Treasurer, GMCANA under the supervision of the Endowments Committee, President, President-elect and chairman of the Board of Trustees of GMCANA. 50% of the annual interest income will be spent every year for promotion of research activities at Guntur Medical College and Government General Hospital, Guntur. Initially it will be spent in the form of awards to research papers published from GMC or GGH in national or international peer reviewed journals or research papers presented at national or international peer reviewed meetings. Later on, the money may be spent on any activity that promotes research at GMC/GGH. All decisions regarding the awards or promotion of other research activities are made by the Endowments Committee of GMCANA. The other 50% of annual interest income and any unused funds will be added to the principal of the fund.

The endowment fund shall be a part of GMCANA account and will be presented to and approved by the general body on an annual or biannual basis. GMCANA will also requests Guntur Medical College to unveil the portrait of Dr. and Mrs. Tummala Ramabrahmam in the Medical Library or other prominent place at the time of initiation of the Endowment Fund. Amount contributed by Dr.Venkata Subba Rao Uppuluri,M.D. and Saraswathi Uppuluri in 1999: $10,000. Dr.Gazula Srihari also has added to the fund ( $ 10712) so also Drs L .Nageswararao ($1250) and Ramprasad Chilakapati ($ 1000). 

The First award was given to Dr.R. Muralibabu Rao, MD DM Prof of Cardiology in August 2000. 

The Second award was given to Dr.V.Rama Tarakanath, MD DM Prof of Neurology on Dec 2001. 

The Third award was given to Dr.Y.Nayudamma, MS Prof of Pediatric Surgery in Dec 23 rd 2002

The fourth awards was split in between Dr. Chittajallu Vasanth Kumar, MD, DGO for his paper,  “Study of Morbidity, Complications, Mortality and Failures  in Laparoscopic Sterilization Camps in  Rural Andhra Pradesh”, and

Dr. Kilambi Satyanarayana Chary, M.S., M.Ch., DNB (Urology) For his paper, “Transperineal Anastomotic Urethroplasty (AU) for Traumatic Prostate  – Membranous Urethral Strictures” 

Sri Vasireddy Seethapathi and Smt.Gowri Devi Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

This Endowment Fund is established by Dr.Jeevika Rani Talluri, M.D. in memory of her parents. Dr.Jeevika Rani wishes to remain anonymous regarding the origin of funds.

The funds will be managed by the Treasurer, GMCANA under the supervision of the Endowments Committee, President, President-elect and chairman of the Board of Trustees of GMCANA.

25% of the annual interest income will be awarded as scholarships in equal amounts to two Guntur Medical College students each of whom scored the highest marks in the most recent MCET and I M.B.B.S. examinations respectively.The annual awards will be announced in the month of January, beginning in the year 2000. The remaining interest income will be added to the principal to protect against inflation.

GMCANA Endowments committee and/or Mrs. Kavitha Annam, of Ongole, granddaughter of Sri Vasireddy Seethapathi and Srimathi Gowri Devi will request the Principal or other responsible person to help with the selection of the students eligible to receive the scholarships. GMCANA Endowments Committee shall take responsibility for proper distribution of funds and maintenance of the account.

The endowment fund shall be a part of GMCANA account and will be presented to and approved by the general body on an annual or biannual basis. GMCANA will also request Guntur Medical College to unveil the portrait of Sri Vasireddy Seethapathi and Srimathi Gowri Devi in the Medical Library or other prominent place at the time of initiation of the Endowment Fund.

Amount contributed by Dr.Jeevika Rani & Sreekrishnamurthy Talluri,M.D. in 1999: $10,000,  2000: $10,350  (Total of $20,350)

GMCANA is pleased to announce the first recipients of the merit scholarships:

        1.K.Raja Rajeswari -- highest combined score in Ist M.B.B.S. (Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry)
        2.Vinjamuri Srinivasa Rao -- highest EAMCET score 1999-2000 admitting class at GMC
 
The second year awards were presented to the following students on December 13th 2001 at the GMCANA awards function. 

          1. N. Pavan Kumar for standing first in 1st M.B., B.S.

          2. K. Naveen Krishna for scoring the highest marks in EAMCET  

The third year awards were presented to the following students on Dec 23, 2002

         1. Ushakiran Anne :  Highest score in EAMCET-2002-2003 Rank                                             : Rank No:5 Conducted by NTRUHS in Guntur 

         2. A. Anjani :  Highest score in 1st MBBS Exams Conducted by NTRUHS;          Marks: Biochemistry 156/200:Anatomy 164/200; Physiology  142/200

The fourth year awards were presented to the following students on Feb 8, 2004

         1. Bendapudi Durga Prasad for having securing first rank at GMC in the 1st MBBS (marks: Biochemistry – 142/200, Anatomy 163/200, Physiology – 142/200)

       2. Nuthakki Vijaya Lakshmi (EAMCET Rank 2; marks: 196/200).

Smt Nirmala  and Sri Pedagopalarao Anne endowment fund in Internal Medicine

    Established in Jan 2007. Donated by Sai Vijaya and Bellam Siva Prasad. The award will be given to a candidate who gets the highest marks in Internal medicine in Final year exams conducted by the University of Health Sciences.

     Smt. Tulasi Mahalaxmi & Sri. Nagabhushnam Goriparthi endowment Fund in Obstretics & Gynecology

Established by Renuka & Kumar Paka established in September 2006. The award (in the form of a gold medal) will be given to a candidate who gets the highest marks in Ob & Gyn in Final year exams conducted by the University of Health Sciences.

   Smt Devabhaktuni Suguna Endowment Fund in Pathology.

Established by Mrs. Sita and Dr. Varaprasad Devabhaktuni (66) given to a female student for highest marks in Pathology conducted by university of health sciences.

      Smt Veera Raghavamma & Sri Subba Rao Thota Endowment Fund in General Surgery Established by Mrs. Anuradha & Dr. Naga Raja Thota (72) for an award in the Department of Surgery. Given to the female student who gets highest marks in Final year exams in General surgery conducted by the University of Health Sciences.

3.   Mrs. Kodali Sugunamma Memorial Endowment in Material and Fetal Medicine donated by  Drs.  Vijayalakshmi and Lakshmana Rao Nimmagadda.
