1. The satisfaction of "giving" to our Alma Mater that gave us our education cannot be put in words.

2. While it is true the government has money, unfortunately, the health care sector is of very low priority and whatever is spent is mostly on buildings and employee salaries.

3. We have a unique perspective since we were trained in India and U.S.A. and hence are in a better position to select and implement projects where maximum     benefit is achieved.

4. Helping GMC is not just giving money. It is also helping modernize medical education and organize CME by visiting GMCANA members and other visiting  Professors.

5. Helping GMC also involves being a catalyst in the flow of ideas. For example, we need to change the idea that hospital means ‘four walls’-------

The GMCANA leadership feels the same way. However, Medical Education cannot be divorced from Medical care at Government General Hospital. If there are no X-Ray or Lab facilities available and if Operating Rooms close in summer, no education is possible. In other words, if better care is provided to larger number of patients with wider range of ailments, the quality of education would be higher. While we defined CME as our primary goal, currently it is of low feasibility because of low interest and high nonfinancial resource consumption. We need to define our ideas in this area further and obtain a lot of your help to make it happen in the next year or two. We are in the planning stages right now.  

We do encourage donation to any worthy project. However, we at GMCANA feel our Alma Mater is in dire need of our help at this time and could use all the help we can render. 

While it may be true in some instances, we cannot aim to change the entire system. Instead, we should focus on our primary goal which is to see that patient care is rendered within the hospital and that care is of the highest quality to the highest number of patients. This would provide the best "clinical material" for teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

While it is true an occasional person in authority is too shortsighted or too egocentric to accept free help graciously, fortunately most people appreciate our help greatly. Moreover, all people that are the intended beneficiaries of our help (as opposed to bureaucrats) express their heartfelt gratitude.

That is where our organization comes into picture. While all charitable organizations have 10% to 90% overhead expenses, GMCANA’s overhead is currently limited to newsletters and nominal fee for maintenance of our Website. Nearly all your money goes to work where it is intended. In addition, since GMCANA does not donate cash and since it chooses only high impact, high feasibility Projects, you do get the biggest Bang for your Buck.

Degree of need, level of interest and commitment, feasibility of project and of course, extent of support from GMCANA members. No cash is donated. For example, the 500mA X-Ray machine is bought by us in India brand new and is now used for more than 50 studies a day.

There is absolutely no reason not to!! But it would help in two ways to use GMCANA:

In many ways:
     Visit GMC/GGH when you visit home.

1. Be a consultant to GMCANA to evaluate impact/feasibility of projects within your expertise.
2. Pick a project of your own or sponsor a project out of the ‘Gift Registry’.
3. Get in touch with your classmates or other members of your specialty and select a project together.      
4. Donate liberally to your Alma Mater.
5. Encourage others to become members and participate in alumni activities.
