Mission Statement "To help develop Guntur Medical College and Government General Hospital, Guntur as premier, modern Medical Education facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, staff and medical community at large" FREQUENTLY (un)ASKED QUESTIONS: What is "Mission Statement" and why do we need one? While there may be a thousand ways that we could help our Alma Mater, we cannot possibly accomplish all things that matter. Mission Statement clarifies our thoughts and identifies our Mission. It helps us to FOCUS on what our goal is and not get distracted by extraneous factors and unavoidable side effects. Why should I help GMC? The Government has a lot of money. 1. The satisfaction of "giving" to our Alma Mater that gave us our education
cannot be put in words.

If bare walls define hospital As alumnus of GMC, I want to help medical education at GMC, not the hospital. The GMCANA leadership feels the same way. However, Medical Education cannot be divorced from Medical care at Government General Hospital. If there are no X-Ray or Lab facilities available and if Operating Rooms close in summer, no education is possible. In other words, if better care is provided to larger number of patients with wider range of ailments, the quality of education would be higher. While we defined CME as our primary goal, currently it is of low feasibility because of low interest and high nonfinancial resource consumption. We need to define our ideas in this area further and obtain a lot of your help to make it happen in the next year or two. We are in the planning stages right now. I can find better use for my money by donating to a private sector project. We do encourage donation to any worthy project. However, we at GMCANA feel our Alma Mater is in dire need of our help at this time and could use all the help we can render. It is a waste of time. Nothing will ever change over there. While this is a common refrain, our experience dictates otherwise. So far, all our donations have been put to good use. And building project donations are still with us. Whatever we donate, it does not go free to patients doctors and others make money out of it , since the system is so corrupt. While it may be true in some instances, we cannot aim to change the entire system. Instead, we should focus on our primary goal which is to see that patient care is rendered within the hospital and that care is of the highest quality to the highest number of patients. This would provide the best "clinical material" for teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. Whatever we do, it is a government institution and they may ask us to get out any time..e.While it is true an occasional person in authority is too shortsighted or too egocentric to accept free help graciously, fortunately most people appreciate our help greatly. Moreover, all people that are the intended beneficiaries of our help (as opposed to bureaucrats) express their heartfelt gratitude. What guarantee do I have that my donation is spent wisely? That is where our organization comes into picture. While all charitable organizations have 10% to 90% overhead expenses, GMCANAs overhead is currently limited to newsletters and nominal fee for maintenance of our Website. Nearly all your money goes to work where it is intended. In addition, since GMCANA does not donate cash and since it chooses only high impact, high feasibility Projects, you do get the biggest Bang for your Buck. What are the criteria for selecting projects at GMC/GGH? Degree of need, level of interest and commitment, feasibility of project and of course, extent of support from GMCANA members. No cash is donated. For example, the 500mA X-Ray machine is bought by us in India brand new and is now used for more than 50 studies a day. Why can I not choose my own project? There is absolutely no reason not to!! But it would help in two ways to use GMCANA:
